TYPICAL DUTIES
- Reviews highly complex specifications and drawings to formulate itemized work descriptions.
- Assigns production man-hours and material costs to each work item within a project.
- Sums up applicable engineering and indirect costs for each work item to determine total project cost.
- Makes high-level decisions and completes in-depth research.
- Prepares estimates for Change Orders and New Business Estimates.
- Creates Estimate Models, CERs (Cost Estimating Relationships), Learning/Cost Improvement Curves, Consolidated Bill of Materials (CBOMs), BOEs (Basis of Estimates), and Proposal Packages.
- Uses proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
- Supervises, directs, and trains lower level Estimators in vendor selection and man-hour factors.
- Supervises lower level Marine Estimators in large or complex projects and is responsible for reviewing and finalizing project costs as presented to the Department Manager.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of division products.
- Comprehensive knowledge of practices and procedures for developing, preparing, and forecasting cost estimates.
- Ability to work from blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to communicate cost-saving methods of utilizing labor and materials for proposed projects.
Required Experience & Training
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a Estimator in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent job experience.
