Responsibilities

• Maintain a high-level of general technical construction knowledge (building types, codes, systems, LEED/sustainable design, etc.)
• Attend and actively participate in design and project meetings with clients and A/E teams
• Develop project-specific Requests For Proposals (RFPs) for subcontractors, including instructions, contract documents, logistics, phasing, schedules, bid forms, and document lists
• Define work scope, solicit, and select subcontractors
• Perform quantity takeoffs and organize/assemble estimates
• Excel in hard bidding projects, organizing scopes of work, and bid evaluation
• Proficient in conceptual estimating through the CM Process (Program, Schematic, DD, CD, etc.) while collaborating with architects and engineers
• Manage construction budgets and understand means/methods of construction
• Understand CPM scheduling and communicate schedule expectations to subcontractors
• Know unit costs of construction materials, labor, and overall SF costs for different building types
• Understand typical system costs (foundations, substructure, superstructure, exteriors, roofing, interiors, etc.)
• Lead Value Analysis processes and working sessions
• Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors
• Lead preconstruction to operations turnover meetings
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Present estimates to clients
• Participate in forecast meetings and track budget vs. actual costs through construction
• Proficient in financial risk management
• Support McAlvain’s mission, values, and policies while setting a positive example within the team

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering
• 2+ years’ experience as an Estimator for a commercial general contractor
• Construction field experience preferred
