Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for general HVAC and piping systems from plans and specifications.
- Prepare complete and accurate bid packages, including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and addenda to identify the full project scope.
- Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate subcontractor and vendor quotes.
- Cook up coordination with project management and field teams to ensure estimates reflect current labor rates and productivity standards.
- Maintain organized bid files and historical cost data for future reference.
- Participate in scope review meetings and pre-bid walkthroughs as required.
- Support value engineering, design/build efforts, and alternate pricing requests.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of estimating experience performing general HVAC and piping takeoffs with a mechanical contractor.
- Demonstrated proficiency in HVAC and piping system takeoffs.
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction methods, materials, and installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, mechanical plans, and specifications.
- Experience with estimating software such as Bluebeam, Trimble, or similar.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Able to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements, union labor agreements, and the local subcontractor market.
- Experience estimating large commercial, institutional, or high-rise construction projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software.
