Responsibilities
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
- Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current/accurate information on prices from suppliers.
- Maintain database with current contact information for subcontractors and vendors.
- Update external company website with current bid information.
- Request quotes; organize, review, and log quotes received.
- Support other department personnel as required.
- Visit project sites to observe construction methods.
- Update skills for software tools and technology utilization.
- Perform post-bid analysis; i.e. bid tabulations.
- Assist with cost control system set-up.
- Participate in bid review meetings with owner or owner’s representatives as needed.
- Participate in project hand-off meetings.
- Absorb additional duties as assigned by the Chief Estimator.
Essential Skills And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of construction experience.
- Advanced math and computer skills.
- Ability to conceptualize a project schedule from start through completion including sequence/phasing of work.
- Knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control.
- Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and HCSS Heavy Bid is a plus; ability to learn additional software programs.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good time management and organization skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Team-focused mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships.
