Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for civil and/or commercial construction projects.
- Develop accurate cost estimates using HCSS Estimating or similar estimating software.
- Participate in bid strategy meetings and preconstruction planning.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents to identify project requirements and potential risks.
- Verify quantity takeoffs and pricing for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, cost histories, and unit pricing.
- Research materials, equipment, labor, and construction methods to support estimate development.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and job walks, documenting relevant project information and owner requirements.
- Assist with scope reviews, value engineering opportunities, and bid clarifications.
- Prepare and present estimate summaries and explain assumptions, labor productivity, equipment needs, and pricing methodologies.
- Coverage of estimates and alignment with construction means and methods.
- Support bid reviews and final proposal preparation.
- Maintain organized estimating files and documentation.
Requirements
- B.S. in Construction or Engineering related degree or commensurate practical experience
- Minimum of 2 years experience in estimating role.
- Experience in civil construction, commercial construction, or both.
- Experience in construction project management preferred, but not required with commensurate estimating experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- HCSS heavy bid experience required.
- Agtek experience.
- Ability to perform detailed take-offs for the following work types: CIP & Precast Concrete, Structural, Earth Work, Utilities, and Mechanical Process.
- Familiarity with reading heavy civil construction drawings and blueprints with detailed specifications.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines.
