Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractors' costs.
- Analyze blueprints, plans, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Absess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs related to bids as the project develops.
- Work closely with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Present prepared estimates for use by management in planning and organizing project budgets.
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and use software to calculate estimates and evaluate a project’s financial feasibility.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience as a construction estimator or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong mathematical skills and the ability to analyze data effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills to ensure accuracy in estimating cost.
- Persuasive communication skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Familiarity with construction management software and tools for estimating costs.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Physical Demands
- This role primarily involves office-based work with extended periods of sitting while working on a computer.
- Occasional site visits may be required, which can include walking, standing, or climbing on uneven surfaces.
- Light lifting of documents, plans, or laptops may be necessary.
