Estimator

About the Role

The Estimator is responsible for estimating the costs and resources required for electrical construction projects. They analyze project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents to accurately determine the materials, labor, and equipment needed for a project. The primary goal is to provide accurate and competitive cost estimates to help clients make informed decisions and ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to develop accurate cost estimates for electrical construction projects, including quantifying materials, labor hours, and equipment requirements.
• Conduct a thorough analysis of electrical drawings and technical specifications to identify all electrical components, wiring layouts, circuitry, and equipment needed for the project, ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards.
• Perform material takeoffs and estimate labor hours for installation, wiring, testing, and other electrical tasks. Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and availability information.
• Maintain an up-to-date cost database with accurate pricing information for electrical materials, equipment, and labor to serve as a reference for future cost estimations.
• Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and proposals for electrical construction projects. Present estimates to clients and participate in bid meetings to clarify and justify estimated costs.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and competitiveness of bids.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering, suggesting alternative materials, construction methods, or design modifications to improve efficiency and reduce costs without compromising safety or functionality.
• Assess and quantify potential risks and uncertainties that may impact the project's cost, schedule, or feasibility. Develop contingency plans and strategies to mitigate risks.
• Maintain accurate records of estimating activities, including project documents, correspondence, and cost data. Generate reports to communicate the estimating process, assumptions, and outcomes to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and other team members to align the estimating process with project goals and requirements.
• Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain accurate and competitive pricing information.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends, electrical codes, regulations, and technologies related to estimating practices through continuous learning and professional development.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned by leadership.

Requirements

• Minimum 1–3 years of estimating experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar field; combination of relevant education and/or field experience considered in lieu of degree.
• Must be able to pass a drug and background screen.
• Good knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
• Ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans and specifications, including drawings, proposals, and other relevant documents.
• Bluebeam knowledge and experience.
• Knowledgeable of electrical materials and methods of installation.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and estimating software.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.

Physical & Cognitive Requirements

• Able to lift up to 20 lbs regularly.
• Position requires the ability to stand, squat, and reach.
• Must be able to stand and walk continuously through shift.
• Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
• May be exposed to dust, noise, fumes, and odoriferous working conditions when visiting project sites.
• Must be able to sit at a desk for 8+ hours per day.
• Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Schedule

Position requires extended hours, which will vary depending on job and site requirements. Each job will require its own specific hours of operation. May need to work weekends if business needs require.

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience and paid weekly.
