Estimator
Responsibilities
- Prepares commercial and municipal estimates per bid procedure.
- Prepares subcontractor evaluations.
- Attends weekly Estimating meeting.
- Reviews all plans and specifications, permit set of drawings, and Owner requirements with the Estimator.
- Prepares bid proposal, including the cost breakdown, clarifications, scope, and exclusions.
- Prepares drawing list.
- Processes and distributes all F.I.s for estimating and job addendums.
- Prepares subcontract and supplier takeoffs.
- Responds to all subcontractor and supplier inquiries in relation to bids.
- Assists with pricing of drawings and revisions.
- Assists in the pricing of owner and subcontract change orders including written narrative and drawing overlay.
- Provides value engineering services.
- Prepares subcontractor comparison sheets for evaluation.
- Prepares estimate turnovers for project managers.
- Aids in generating the scope of work for all trades.
- Aids in post-bid buyouts.
- Prepare call list and follow up for quote coverage.
- Maintain positive client/subcontractor relationships.
- Prepares project budgets.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager.
Requirements
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and HCSS HeavyBid.
- AGTEK experience preferred.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Superior customer service skills required.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and manage subcontractors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with Civil and/or Heavy Highway Construction.
- Experience with underground utilities, earthwork, roadway reconstruction, and civil construction required.
Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and HCSS HeavyBid.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Extreme attention to detail.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
- For office/headquarters-based positions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Climates-controlled office environment with varying temperatures.
- Occasional travel to jobsites with exposure to fluctuating weather conditions.
- For shop/field-based positions:
- Work performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, ranging from freezing temperatures to heat above 90°F, in both wet and dry conditions.
- Work may be performed in confined spaces.
- Exposure to odors, gases, dust, and dirt.
- Noise levels ranging from moderate to loud.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of 10-60 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Frequent overhead reaching and lifting.
- Majority of time spent standing, crawling, climbing, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
- Manual labor, including hand digging as needed.
- Some Saturday work is required; Sundays are rarely needed.
