Estate Planning Paralegal
About the Role
Lulich & Attorneys, P.A. is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and detail-oriented Estate Planning Paralegal to join our growing Estate Planning team. This is a substantive, hands-on role for a paralegal who will work closely with attorneys throughout the entire estate planning process—from gathering and analyzing client information through drafting, execution, trust funding, and post-signing follow-up.
The ideal candidate understands estate planning concepts, takes ownership of assigned matters, produces consistently accurate work, and can independently move files forward while keeping the supervising attorney informed of issues requiring legal review. We are looking for someone who wants to develop significant estate planning experience and become an integral part of a growing practice.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with attorneys throughout the entire estate planning process, including gathering and analyzing client information, drafting, execution, trust funding, and post-signing follow-up.
- Take ownership of assigned matters and independently move files forward while keeping the supervising attorney informed of issues requiring legal review.
- Draft, review, and proofread estate planning documents for accuracy and consistency.
- Manage numerous active client matters and competing deadlines.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients regarding sensitive family and financial matters.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive client information.
- Use strong judgment to determine when an issue should be elevated to an attorney.
- Follow up on outstanding assignments and deadlines proactively.
- Utilize and learn new legal software and technology tools quickly.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a paralegal, preferably in estate planning, probate, elder law, trusts and estates, or a related practice area.
- Working knowledge of estate planning documents and terminology.
- Strong legal document drafting and proofreading skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, including the ability to review multiple documents within an estate plan for consistency.
- Strong organizational and case-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional and compassionate approach when communicating with clients.
- Ability to work independently within established attorney supervision and firm procedures.
- Strong technology skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Qualities We Value
- Taking ownership of a matter instead of simply completing individual assignments.
- Noticing inconsistencies and errors that others might overlook.
- Understanding the significance of details such as correct names, beneficiary designations, fiduciary designations, or legal descriptions.
- Enjoying drafting and working with complex legal documents.
- Being highly organized and naturally keeping track of tasks that still need completion.
- Following up without needing repeated reminders.
- Comfortably managing numerous matters at different stages of the estate planning process.
- Communicating confidently and professionally with clients and attorneys.
- Asking thoughtful questions when something does not make sense.
- Welcoming feedback and continually looking for ways to improve your work.
- Enjoying technology and being willing to learn new systems and tools.
- Desiring to develop deeper expertise in estate planning.
- Seeking a long-term career opportunity rather than simply your next job.
