Job summary
Children with autism require assistance in communication and environmental organization. The paraprofessional will support the special education teacher in classroom operations and work with students individually or in small groups.
Responsibilities and Tasks Include
- Aid in implementing the special education instructional plan, including physical and behavioral management.
- Follow through with individual student plans across all program settings as directed by the supervising teacher.
- Collect observational data about assigned students and report findings to the supervising teacher.
- Assist in the preparation, collection, and maintenance of educational materials and equipment.
- Participate in staffings, conferences, and other special meetings as requested by the supervising teacher.
- Complete educational forms, reports, and other student-related data as directed by the special education teacher.
- Perform any other duties as deemed necessary by the team and approved by the Special Education Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be Highly Qualified (HQ) to work as a special education paraprofessional by start date per the Minnesota Department of Education.
- Must have: Two years of study at an institution of higher education; An Associate’s (or higher) degree; Received a passing score on the ParaPro, ParaEducator, or ParaPathways Assessment.
- The District will pay for the assessment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Skills needed to perform tasks and work with children, staff, and parents.
- Physical capability to lift and attend to physical needs of students as required.
- Participation in district training program prior to and during employment.
Pay
View Classification II (2) salary grid on page 4, section 2, and classification, page 5, section 2 on Educational Support Professional contract.
Schedule
6 hours/day; 5 days/week
