ES&H Safety Advisor

About the role

The Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in developing and executing the safety and occupational health component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program. This position involves administrative and field tasks aligned with industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements.

Responsibilities

• Execute assignments involving safety and health issues and risks, applying judgment and experience to reduce potential adverse impacts.
• Integrate safety, health, and environmental requirements into planning documents, construction, commissioning and startup, operations, schedules, procurement, and subcontract documents.
• Interpret requirements and provide technical assistance within ES&H teams and to project groups regarding risk and hazard assessment, plan preparation, and ES&H program execution.
• Research issues, regulatory requirements, perform safety studies, risk assessments, and prepare documentation and reports.
• Implement the project Safety and Health Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
• Establish emergency preparedness and conduct incident investigations.
• Conduct inspections and monitoring to evaluate ES&H performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
• Develop safety and health communication through various media.
• Analyze data, track ES&H performance and trends, and prepare technical reports.
• Support other ES&H team members and tasks associated with all three ES&H disciplines.

Requirements

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
• Skilled in oral and written communication and knowledge of computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience in safety compliance inspection/assessment during construction.
• This is a field position approximately 80%: Candidate must be able to walk on rocky and uneven surfaces, remain standing for long periods of time, don protective gear (respirators, fall protection harness, boots, gloves), climb ladders up to 30 ft., lift and carry loads up to 40lbs.

Preferred

• 30 hour OSHA certification.
• Fifth year of consecutive experience in construction safety.
• Third-party certification in confined space safety; work at heights/fall protection, hazardous materials/IH or other related ES&H specialty.
