ER Technician, Emergency Department

About the role

The ED Tech performs a variety of basic patient care activities and related procedures in caring for the needs of the patients under the direction of the Director. They assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment.

Responsibilities

• Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, B/P, height/weight and intake/output measurements accurately – reports findings outside of normal range to RN
• Assists with ADL’s to assigned patients
• Assists with nutritional needs of the patients, including feeding, mealtime- assistance/set-up, supplying fluids, refilling water pitchers, and delivering supplemental snacks
• Lifts, moves, turns, and transports patients out of their bed, chair, stretcher, wheelchair, portable mechanical lift, etc, maintaining proper body mechanics
• Performs laboratory procedures as noted: venipuncture, EKG, GTT, blood culture, urine collection procedures and other laboratory procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse
• Demonstrates the 4’C’s of Commitment, Compassion, Competence, and Communication

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• BLS Certification through American Heart Association
• Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and demonstrated writing skills
• Proven track record of compassionate care & superior service and a commitment to providing healthcare excellence

Qualifications

• College degree
• One (1) year of Nurse Aide/Assistant or EMT experience
• At least one (1) year experience as a phlebotomist or EKG Technician with healthcare background
