ER Nurse (7a-7p, Weekend Option)

About the Role

This position involves providing holistic, patient-centered care in an emergency department setting, with a focus on assessment, critical thinking, and collaboration with allied healthcare members.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate assessment and reassessment documentation of emergency department patients and proper communication of findings to other healthcare team members.
• Utilize the appropriate chain of command and delegate care responsibilities effectively.
• Provide care that respects patient rights and organizational policies.
• Develop individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs using critical thinking.
• Perform triage of emergency department patients with demonstrated proficiency.
• Deliver competent, comprehensive patient care using technical skills and knowledge.
• Exhibit leadership abilities, including giving and following instructions accurately.
• Serve as a positive, professional role model and provide teaching/instruction to patients, families, and colleagues.

• Base care and decisions on the Nursing Process: Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation.

• Demonstrate competence in required clinical and technical skills.
• Prepare patients and families for discharge by providing education throughout their hospital stay.

• Contribute to planning, implementing, and supporting progressive change, including suggesting solutions to patient care or unit problems.
• Assume expanded responsibilities after necessary orientation and education.
• Assist with the orientation of new staff members.
• Attend in-service presentations, unit/departmental meetings (80% attendance or as assigned), and maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality.
• Participate in identifying and recommending areas for improvement and engage in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care.
• Complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and recognize the impact of actions on other departments to promote teamwork and cost containment.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members regarding patient care needs and delegate responsibilities appropriately.
• Communicate pertinent patient information clearly, accurately, concisely, and in a timely manner to other healthcare providers.
• Direct concerns to appropriate persons within suitable time frames.
• Practice in accordance with safety principles, OSHA guidelines, and infection control guidelines.
• Ensure protection and support while moving, transferring, or ambulating patients.
• Deliver patient care in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner, respecting patient rights to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Confront situations assertively and non-aggressively to ensure the rights of patients, self, and others are respected.

Requirements

• Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
• Graduate of an accredited ASN or BSN program.
• ACLS certification within one (1) year of hire.
• ER PALS certification within two (2) years of hire (for ER positions).
• Mandatory continuing education in Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and other education required by regulatory or accreditation bodies.

Preferred Qualifications

• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) certification.
• CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) certification.
• SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) certification.
• Prior Emergency Service or Critical Care experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN).
• Skills: Trauma Nursing Core Course Certification, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Certification, PALS Certification, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course Certification, Certified Emergency Nurse, ACLS Certification, BLS Certification.
