ER Liaison
About the role
VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Shelton, Connecticut is seeking a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join the Emergency Department as the Emergency Room Liaison.
Responsibilities
- Client communication: Client updates (in the waiting room and over the phone), calling owners with status updates/ lab results, going over discharge instructions, creating and going over estimates, follow up phone calls, etc
- Record Keeping: Sending referral letters, scanning and/or faxing records, calling referral veterinarians for medical records, entering charges, etc
- Filling prescriptions and going over prescription instructions with clients
- Restraint of patients
- Submitting and running laboratory tests
- Coordinating triages with doctors
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum of 1 year experience working in a veterinary practice required. Must have medical knowledge and be capable of discussing medical situations with owners (confirming CPR status of patient, discussing treatment options, etc).
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to handle stressful situations professionally. A strong background in veterinary medicine is preferred but not required.
Skills
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and basic computer skills are essential.

Pay
$18 – 25 / hour dependent on skill set, experience, and licensure status.
