ER Liaison

About the role

Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center of Westbury is seeking a skilled individual to work with our team of doctors in our 24-hour emergency & multi-specialty practice in Westbury, New York. The ideal candidate will work alongside emergency & specialty departments, giving immediate access to the wide range of doctors, from Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Oncology & surgery.

Responsibilities

• Work in tandem with the doctor as needed to ensure there is a direct line of communication between the owner, pDVM and the doctor.
• Provide a clear expectation of what to expect during the patient’s stay, from presentation to discharge.
• Keep the owner informed during every step, as well as maintain communications with the front desk, technicians, emergency doctors and specialty veterinarians as needed.
• Field and facilitate incoming phone calls for the doctor, and provide a point of contact for pet owners, and referring veterinarians.
• Manage medical records, reports, and log correspondence with clients.
• Help guide clients dealing with euthanasia by walking them through the process before, and by finalizing afterlife care.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working in veterinary facility preferred, but not required.
• Strong attendance, punctuality and time management is a must.
• Telephone and computer skills are necessary.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Effectively present medical and financial information to clients and employees.
• Friendly, outgoing, and detail oriented.
• Capable of being cross trained - This requires the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and be exposed to hazards such as allergies, contagious diseases, noises, bites, and odors.
• A team player and eager to learn new things.
• Display compassion for pets and people.
• Ability to work in a very active, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours of varying shifts - including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

Pay commensurate with experience. Pay rate $20-$23/hr based off of experience.
