Equipment Yard Laborer

About the role
This position supports the daily operations of an equipment yard by maintaining, organizing, and preparing machinery, tools, and materials for use on job sites. The role involves physical labor, basic equipment upkeep, and coordination with drivers, mechanics, and site crews to ensure equipment is ready and accounted for.
This is a full-time, on-site position based at McKee Utility’s equipment yard. Occasional local travel to project sites, vendor locations, or other company facilities may be required to support equipment and material needs. Extended or overnight travel is not typically expected.
Responsibilities
- Load, unload, and organize construction equipment, tools, and materials
- Inspect equipment for damage, missing parts, or maintenance needs before and after use
- Clean equipment (pressure washing, degreasing, removing debris) to prepare it for storage or deployment
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as checking fluid levels, greasing fittings, and inflating tires
- Maintain accurate inventory records of tools, parts, and equipment coming in and out of the yard
- Assist with loading/unloading delivery trucks and trailers
- Operate small machinery (skid steers, pallet jacks, small forklifts) as needed
- Keep the yard organized, safe, and compliant with company and OSHA safety standards
- Report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors
- Assist mechanics with minor repairs or part replacements
- Secure loads and equipment for transport
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment, including snow removal, debris clearing, and general yard upkeep
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience in a construction, warehouse, or yard environment a plus
- Ability to operate basic hand and power tools
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Forklift certification preferred or willingness to obtain one
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Comfortable working around heavy machinery and in a fast-paced environment
