About the role

This position is designed for candidates obtaining post-secondary technical college degrees that require an internship as part of the program. The Technical Field Intern (Equipment Technician) performs entry-level skilled work in the maintenance and repair of light vehicles and heavy construction equipment under moderate supervision.

Job location may vary within MoDOT's Central District area.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and performs basic repairs to automobiles, trucks, tractors, loaders, motor graders, and other heavy equipment.
  • Inspects, services, repairs, and overhauls transmissions, engines, clutches, drivelines, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies, and ignition systems.
  • Repairs and installs hydraulic controls; tunes motors using standard testing equipment.
  • Dismantles, repairs, and reassembles air compressors, hydraulic jacks, pumps, cylinders, and related equipment.
  • Inspects, repairs, overhauls, and assembles automotive components such as alternators, distributors, and starters.
  • Reviews equipment maintenance records and observes employees in the operation of equipment to determine and correct operator error and ensure proper maintenance.
  • Gathers computerized diagnostic information to assess vehicle repair needs.

Requirements

  • Enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours) in a relevant 2-year/associate’s degree program.
  • 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program.
  • High school or other postsecondary program credits must be accepted by the current program (verified via degree transcript).
  • Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
