About the role

As a Shift Equipment Technician at Micron Technology, Inc. in Manassas, Virginia, you will monitor, sustain, and improve the equipment and/or processes in your assigned area while working in partnership with production team members and area engineers. You will monitor tool performance, schedule and perform preventative maintenance on assigned tool sets, and use mechanical, electronic, and PC/software skills to troubleshoot and repair equipment issues. You will assist with equipment installs and tests, create and modify equipment procedures, and increase tool uptime through systematic problem solving and troubleshooting. You will thoroughly document all maintenance performed in established check sheets and tracking programs, and routinely review maintenance check sheets and procedures. You will monitor, analyze, and address SPC issues for area processes daily and respond to SPC out-of-control issues. You will keep the Lead Tech and/or Lead Engineer updated on tool and area issues.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor tool performance and schedule/perform preventative maintenance on assigned tool sets.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment issues using mechanical, electronic, and PC/software skills.
  • Assist with equipment installs and tests; create and modify equipment procedures.
  • Increase tool uptime through systematic problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Thoroughly document all maintenance performed in established check sheets and tracking programs.
  • Routinely review maintenance check sheets and procedures.
  • Monitor, analyze, and address SPC issues for area processes daily; respond to SPC out-of-control issues.
  • Keep the Lead Tech and/or Lead Engineer updated on tool and area issues.
  • Leverage AI assistants to analyze equipment data, create summaries, and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Apply generative AI tools in accordance with Micron policies to increase productivity and automate routine administrative tasks.
  • Use AI-supported methods to enhance problem solving, knowledge management, and technical communication.

Requirements

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of AC/DC circuits, fundamentals of electricity, and basic electronics.
  • Basic understanding of mathematical concepts and problem solving at least into an algebraic level.
  • Basic PC skills including MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot basic problems and address root causes.
  • Ability to properly use common hand tools.
  • Solid time management and prioritization skills.
  • Proven ability in multi-tasking complex projects.
  • Basic data extraction, analysis, and reporting skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to be flexible with job responsibilities and take the initiative to assume added responsibilities.
  • Successfully demonstrated teamwork skills with a strong focus on effective team dynamics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of semiconductor equipment and processes.
  • Flexibility to work any shift and rotate shifts as needed.
  • Basic understanding of physics concepts and principles.
  • Ability to lift 25–50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to wear personal protective gear including a respirator breathing apparatus.
  • Ability to perform tasks while stooping, crouching, kneeling, or crawling.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work with arms raised above head level.
  • Ability to see and respond to potentially dangerous situations.
  • Ability to report to site as scheduled.
  • Ability to spend a large portion of time on shift walking or standing.
  • Ability to work with various gases and chemicals used for production processes and maintenance.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment including cleanroom garments, face covering, and safety glasses; additional protective equipment may be defined per job role.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in an electronics-related field is preferred, or equivalent work/military experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Basic knowledge of test and calibration equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, DMMs).
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of the specific area equipment and processes.
  • Basic understanding of SPC principles and proper application.
  • Additional preferences may be defined by area leadership.
