About the Role
This role ensures a safe, well-supplied, and efficiently equipped healthcare environment by maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, managing supplies and equipment, and fostering communication across departments.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health, and hospital standards to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Support hospital-wide and unit-wide HCAHPS measures.
- Maintain clean utility rooms, storage areas, and equipment storage in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure equipment is stored properly without violations of health, fire, and safety codes; report non-functioning equipment promptly.
- Maintain and account for assessment equipment (e.g., thermometers, blood pressure machines, blood glucose machines, pulse oximeters) and ensure readiness for the next shift.
- Keep hallways, dirty utility rooms, supply rooms, and linen rooms free from obstructions and clutter.
- Complete weekly Joint Commission Checklist for the unit and report findings to the leadership team.
- Maintain stock and supply par levels, adjusting as needed to keep the unit appropriately stocked.
- Order supplies, track supply orders, and monitor usage rates of disposable equipment daily.
- Perform weekly inventory of supplies to ensure adequate stores and arrange acquisition of additional supplies as needed.
- Ensure timely ordering of supplies and maintain storage areas consistent with Joint Commission and hospital safety standards.
- Segregate appropriate equipment related to age, size, weight, and function.
- Maintain log numbers of all equipment and oversee equipment sent for repair, following up with the clinical department.
- Report all lost or broken equipment to the manager or designee and ensure equipment is clean, ready for use, and plugged in.
- Orient new staff in the care of equipment and return rental equipment on a timely basis.
- Oversee the process for equipment repairs by Clinical Engineering and work effectively with other departments when borrowing and returning equipment.
- Work in a self-directed manner, accurately communicating pertinent information to appropriate personnel.
- Keep the manager, Assistant Nurse Managers, and charge nurse informed of the status of supplies and equipment.
- Act as a liaison to departments such as Clinical Engineering, Plant Engineering, Resource Coordinator, Storeroom, and CSR.
- Work with Nursing Assistants to meet environmental and equipment needs of the unit.
- Act as a resource person for new personnel regarding the location and procurement of supplies.
- Assist staff with other duties as requested and perform additional tasks as required by leadership.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- BLS certification (preferred).
- Previous healthcare experience (preferred).
- Payroll experience and unit associate experience (preferred).
