About the role
The Equipment Shop Foreman at South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks is responsible for managing maintenance and repair of wheeled vehicles and industrial/construction equipment, coordinating their receipt and disposal, ensuring high quality and cost-effectiveness, and maintaining equipment performance and availability.
Responsibilities
- Manages maintenance and repair of wheeled vehicles and industrial/construction equipment
- Captures and coordinates receipt and disposal of wheeled vehicles and industrial/construction equipment
- Ensures high quality and cost-effective vehicles and equipment
- Ensures continuity of equipment performance
- Manages equipment shop and storeroom facilities and inventories
- Maintains an available, controlled, work environment with an adequate source of tools, shop equipment, parts and supplies
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and valid commercial driver's license (CDL) within 120 days of hire date
- Class A CDL with the tanker endorsement and no restrictions
- Must have or obtain a valid commercial driver license (CDL) within 120 days of hire date
- Subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable-suspicion, post-accident, follow-up, and return-to-duty drug and alcohol testing
Qualifications
- Personnel management and supervision practices
- Fiscal management procedures for preparing a shop operating budget and authorizing expenditures
- Standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the automotive mechanics' trade
- Principles of internal combustion engines, different drive trains, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
- Principles of automotive computer technology, diagnostics, and repair methods
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanics' trade
- State and federal guidelines governing safe handling and disposal methods for hazardous materials
- Department policies and procedures
Skills
- Effective planning and organizing work activities
- Developing procedures and determining the logical flow of work
- Preparing budget estimates, maintaining records, and preparing reports
- Planning, supervising, and coordinating the work of skilled and unskilled employees
- Delegating assignments to the most appropriate subordinate
- Communicating explicit expectations and standards of performance to subordinates and evaluating work performed
- Diagnosing equipment malfunctions and determining most effective corrective actions
- Operating heavy equipment
