Equipment Service Technician

About the role

As a trusted STERIS advisor, an Equipment Service Technician drives an exceptional Customer experience by providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, equipment modifications, calibration, validation, and installation support on various mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic units. This role covers the greater Chicago area and is safety-sensitive.

Responsibilities

• Drive Customer satisfaction through proactive communication and commitment to resolving Customer issues expediently.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on STERIS and related product lines in a safe and efficient manner using schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Complete administrative duties to ensure effective planning, utilization, and required paperwork completion.
• Develop and maintain effective, communicative relationships with Customers, managers, support functions, and the sales organization.
• Communicate scheduling for Preventative Maintenance and estimated time of arrival for unscheduled work.
• Proactively respond to and resolve Customer problems/issues, utilizing product and industry knowledge to exceed service expectations.
• Identify sales opportunities and recommend STERIS products/services to Customers; communicate leads to management and sales staff.
• Respond to routine Customer and sales questions regarding equipment operation, performance, sizing, utility requirements, and pre-installation evaluations.
• Provide timely service calls, warranty calls, field upgrade programs, and related support.
• Maintain courteous and professional demeanor when working with Customers, contractors, management, and fellow employees.
• Follow Customer protocols for entering and exiting facilities and abide by all STERIS and Customer Health & Safety protocols.

Requirements

• High School Diploma with 2 years of experience in repair and maintenance of equipment, or similar experience.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to work flexible hours, sometimes outside “normal business hours,” and travel as required.
• Must be compliant with hospital/customer credentialing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in electronics, mechanical, or similar discipline.
• Competitive/competitor equipment training or related military experience.
• General knowledge of cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) and GEP (Good Engineering Practice) used in pharmaceutical and research environments.
• Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
• General knowledge of sterilization principles and methods, steam systems, sterilizers, and other decontamination methods.
• Strong Customer communication skills with demonstrated ability to build positive rapport.
• Proficiency with computers, Windows software, and web technologies.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.
• Flexibility to handle multiple and changing priorities.

Pay

Pay range for this opportunity is $61,412.50 - $72,250.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than the range listed. Pay rates are based on factors including local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, and foreign language fluency.
