Equipment Repair Technician
Location: Norfolk, VA (RDA) – Welding equipment rental
About the role
Under the direction of the Branch Manager, the technician repairs, refurbishes, and maintains engine-driven welding equipment and generators while contributing to a safe and supportive working environment. You will assemble electric, diesel, gas, and propane equipment for rental, ensure precision and reliability through testing and calibration, and maintain a professional appearance of equipment through repainting and decal application. The role involves coordinating parts ordering, inspecting returned equipment, and occasionally providing on-site service to support customers. You will foster a clean and organized work environment, prepare documentation for repairs, and collaborate with branch personnel and customers.
Responsibilities
- Repair, refurbish, and maintain engine-driven welding equipment and generators.
- Contribute to a culture of safety by following Airgas/Red-D-Arc’s health and safety guidelines.
- Restore and maintain all electric and engine drives to ensure peak performance.
- Assemble electric, diesel, gas, and propane equipment for rental.
- Test and calibrate machines to ensure precision and reliability.
- Repaint parts, touch up paint, and apply decals to maintain a professional appearance.
- Identify and update parts while completing essential preventative maintenance.
- Coordinate parts ordering to ensure efficient repairs.
- Inspect returned equipment to ensure proper operation and identify necessary care.
- Use a forklift, pallet jack, or other equipment to organize parts in the shop.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Prepare and complete documentation for all machine repairs.
- Occasionally provide on-site service to support equipment and customers.
- Communicate openly with branch personnel and customers regarding equipment needs.
- Support field operations as needed to reach shared business goals.
- Perform other related duties as a collaborative team member.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required.
- Valid Driver License and good driving record.
Qualifications
- 1 year of related technical experience; early-career candidates or those transitioning from similar fields are welcome.
- Working knowledge of power generating and welding equipment is a plus.
- Thoroughness and care in technical tasks, paired with solid organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and thrive with trusted autonomy while staying connected to team goals.
