About the role

This Equipment Repair Technician position offers a great opportunity to combine your journey-level mechanical experience and diagnostic skills in maintaining the Light/Heavy Equipment Fleet for ADOT and the State of Arizona. This position is part of a series that offers career advancement through our Criteria Based Promotion (CBP) program.

Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various types of machinery and equipment including automotive, light equipment, and/or heavy-duty equipment. Performs repairs in accordance with accepted automotive service/repair industry standards and agency policy.

This position is eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive.

Responsibilities

• Inspects a variety of vehicles/equipment to identify repairs and adjustments necessary for safe operation.
• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance services, including lube and oil change, tire repair and mounting, and minor repairs/adjustments.
• Interprets manufacturer specifications.
• Repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls mechanical, electrical, electronic, and/or hydraulic systems in a wide variety of automotive/light/heavy construction equipment.
• Schedules/coordinates automotive/heavy construction equipment service and repair to maximize utilization.
• Estimates time and cost of repair maintenance work for a wide variety of automotive/heavy construction equipment.
• Utilizes computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment.

Requirements

• One year of experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of Light or Construction Equipment with a degree or certification from an automotive vocational school or two years of experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of Light or Construction Equipment.
• Possession of a valid driver's license during the period of employment.
• EPA Section 609 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months of employment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull 90 lbs; pass a physical exam.

• Record-keeping principles and practices.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Interpret repair manuals, service bulletins, and recall bulletins.
• Utilize a PC and PC programs such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Manage time effectively.
• Diagnose issues quickly and accurately, and determine the best course of action to fix them.
• Prioritize tasks efficiently, especially in high-demand environments where equipment downtime needs to be minimized.

Pay

$46,394 - $56,394 annually. Anticipated starting salary: $51,394.00.
