Equipment Repair Technician ($4,000 Hiring Incentive)

Job Duties

  • Inspects a variety of vehicles/equipment, to identify repairs and adjustments necessary for safe operation.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance services, including lube and oil change, tire repair and mounting, and minor repairs/adjustments.
  • Interpreting manufacturer specifications.
  • Aids Intermediate and Senior Technician with complex overhaul and repair projects.
  • Updates and maintains preventive maintenance service records.
  • Picks up and delivers parts and supplies.
  • Picks up and returns vehicles and equipment.
  • Prepares newly purchased vehicles and equipment to be placed in operational service.
  • Operates a state vehicle.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Power/drive train system inspection, diagnosis and repair procedures.
  • Electrical systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Electronic control systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Computerized diagnostic analyzer use procedures and practices.
  • Hydraulic systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Fleet maintenance shop safety principles and practices.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.

Skills

  • Repairing and maintaining mechanical, electrical, electronic and automotive/heavy construction equipment.
  • Operating computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment.
  • Estimating time cost of repair maintenance work for a wide variety of automotive/heavy construction equipment.
  • Scheduling/coordinating automotive/heavy construction equipment service and repair to maximize utilization.
  • Repairing, rebuilding, and overhauling mechanical, electrical, electronic, and/or hydraulic systems in a wide variety of automotive/light/heavy construction equipment.

Ability

  • To follow oral and written instructions.
  • To interpret repair manuals, service bulletins and recall bulletins.
  • To utilize a PC and PC programs such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • To manage time effectively.
  • To diagnose issues quickly and accurately, and determine the best course of action to fix them.
  • To prioritize tasks efficiently, especially in high-demand environments where equipment downtime needs to be minimized.
  • To lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull 90 lbs; pass a physical exam.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
  • The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended.
  • Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
  • An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
