About the Role
The Equipment Quality Program Manager will strengthen our Data Center Engineering & Construction team. Our data centers rely on our equipment supply chain being of the utmost quality. This role will lead our equipment quality program, define standards and quality processes, and lead a team to administer this program throughout our new and expanding vendor portfolio. This position will oversee quality standards and First of Kind (FOK) commissioning of equipment throughout the manufacturing process to ensure our projects are delivered on time and meet our standards globally.
Responsibilities
- Expand and complete setting up our Equipment Quality Program, as well as establish quality metrics focused on vendor equipment manufacturing, using these metrics to improve project reliability and startup.
- Work deeply with QTS Engineering & Operations to recommend any changes to the equipment if needed to meet our standards of operation or safety.
- Ensure QTS Board of Directors (BOD) compliance to confirm that equipment is manufactured to correct specifications.
- Work with teams to solve any issues identified by the metrics.
- Guide and develop our vendor inspection of factory quality and FOK commissioning teams, ensuring they work well with our vendors and exceed our standards.
- Work with construction management staff to create and maintain standards and processes that help projects run smoothly and keep teams communicating effectively.
- Build a team to serve as the main points of contact for the vendors, ensuring they meet QTS’s quality and QTS BOD expectations.
- Train team members and vendors on quality processes for equipment manufacturing.
- Handle quality problems by working with design, procurement, and operations teams to keep projects on track.
- Regularly check on quality practices to ensure they meet our standards (at manufacturing and also at jobsite).
- Conduct audits on design documents and quality records to ensure they comply with our requirements.
- Update and improve quality documents like checklists and test plans to better fit modular construction projects.
- Address any project issues by implementing corrective actions.
- Review QTS commissioning plans and provide input to ensure they align with project goals.
- Ensure all project documentation is complete and accurate before handing over projects.
- Oversee equipment tests to confirm they meet our standards.
- Maintain detailed records of tests and commissioning activities.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in QA/QC, commissioning, or equipment manufacturing or engineering role specifically around MEP equipment.
- Data Center Experience is a plus but deep equipment knowledge is primary.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a similar related field.
- Strong knowledge of equipment manufacturing process and systems.
- Experience leading QA/QC processes and teams.
- Skilled at managing relationships with manufacturers, contractors, vendors, and consultants.
- Knowledgeable in critical systems like power and cooling in data centers.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing project needs.
- Expect to travel 50-70% domestically, depending on project needs, and some international travel.
Preferred Skills
- Excellent at managing people and scheduling work.
- Familiar with QA/QC management software like CX Alloy, ProCore, or ACC Build.
- Project management certification (PMP) is a plus.
