Electrical Quality Control Manager
About the role
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and managing adherence to the project Electrical Safety Plan on a large-scale data center construction project. This role oversees the installation and quality control of electrical equipment such as switchgears, UPS systems, PDUs, and generators, while ensuring all work complies with NFPA 70E, OSHA, and established electrical safety standards. The position plays a key role in energization and de-energization activities, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and overall electrical safety communication across the project team.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate, implement, and manage adherence to the project Electrical Safety Plan for all electrical activities.
- Oversee installations of electrical equipment including switchgears, UPS systems, PDUs, and generators to ensure quality and compliance.
- Complete NFPA 70E training on Electrical Safety Related Work Practices and apply this knowledge in daily operations.
- Assign a competent back-up to the Energy Marshal and ensure coverage for all critical activities.
- Review the Electrical Energization Safety Program with the electrical contractor and commissioning authority to confirm alignment and compliance.
- Organize and schedule pre-energization meetings at least five days in advance of energizing or de-energizing critical equipment.
- Identify the project's Energy Marshal and Deputy Energy Marshal at pre-energization meetings and clearly review their roles, authority, and responsibilities.
- Confirm that individuals working on energized or de-energized equipment are Qualified Workers based on NFPA 70E, OSHA, or an accepted qualified electrical safety training standard.
- Document Qualified Workers' certifications in a project log and maintain accurate records.
- Deliver project-specific Electrical Safety Orientation to employees who will be working on energized or de-energized equipment.
- Review the electrician's LOTO plan, verify its accuracy, and ensure it is properly managed and followed.
- Review electricians' and vendors' Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) to ensure risks are identified and mitigated.
- Confirm receipt of the approved coordination study and verify that all arc flash labels have been correctly applied to equipment.
- Track and confirm completion of all required QA/QC activities and ensure documentation is submitted and maintained.
- Review the daily Pre-Task Plan for energization activities and ensure alignment with safety and quality requirements.
- Implement clear communication to the project team that identifies daily high-risk activities, energized equipment and spaces, barriers, and off-limit areas.
- Confirm that all pre-energization steps have been completed prior to energizing electrical systems.
- Coordinate all energization and de-energization activities with appropriate stakeholders, including electrical contractors, commissioning teams, and project leadership.
- Conduct daily kick-off meetings to review LOTO plans with the project team and stakeholders.
- Maintain progress and accuracy of posted single-line drawings for energized equipment and LOTO boundaries.
- Conduct pre-energization daily walks with the electrician and project team to verify readiness, and perform end-of-day walks to confirm all electrical systems are secure.
- Confirm adherence to the LOTO plan and isolation requirements throughout the project.
- Add Energy Marshal locks to each installed lock box, ensuring the Energy Marshal uses a specific colored lock that is the last to be removed after confirming pre-energization inspections are complete.
- Confirm that adequate signage and barriers are installed for electrical rooms and spaces containing energized equipment.
- Confirm that an effective access control plan is in place for electrical rooms and spaces with energized equipment, and ensure the Energy Marshal wears a clearly identifiable safety vest for easy visual recognition in the field.
- Support construction management, quality control, and quality assurance processes related to electrical and MEP systems.
- Collaborate with commissioning teams to support testing, verification, and turnover of electrical systems in the data center environment.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in electrical construction, quality control, or a closely related field.
- NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training certificate and demonstrated ability to apply electrical safety work practices.
- Proven experience in data center projects, including electrical systems and critical infrastructure.
- Strong electrical construction experience with hands-on experience in installation and inspection of medium voltage and low voltage systems.
- Experience with medium voltage systems and associated safety and coordination requirements.
- Commissioning experience on electrical systems, particularly within data center or mission-critical facilities.
- Demonstrated experience with LOTO procedures and implementing lockout/tagout programs on complex projects.
- Experience performing quality control and QA/QC activities on data center and electrical inspections.
- Knowledge of construction management practices and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of MEP systems and their integration with electrical infrastructure.
- Ability to read and maintain single-line drawings and electrical documentation.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey high-risk activities, safety requirements, and energization plans to project stakeholders.
- Ability to organize and lead safety and pre-energization meetings with diverse project teams.
Additional Skills
- Experience working in large-scale construction environments, preferably with mission-critical or data center facilities.
- Experience in quality assurance and quality control processes for electrical and MEP systems.
- Familiarity with OSHA electrical safety requirements and accepted qualified electrical safety training standards.
- Experience reviewing and managing Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for electricians and vendors.
- Ability to develop and deliver project-specific Electrical Safety Orientations and training sessions.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills for certifications, QA/QC activities, and safety plans.
- Willingness to travel or relocate for the duration of a multi-year project.
- Capability to coordinate with commissioning authorities, electrical contractors, and project leadership to align safety and quality objectives.
- Comfort working in a contracted role on a long-term project with potential for extended engagement.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and maintain clear access control and signage protocols for energized spaces.
Work Environment
This role is based on-site at a data center construction project and follows a typical schedule of approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or aligned with project start and finish times for the day. The work environment is field-oriented, involving regular walks through electrical rooms, construction areas, and spaces with energized and de-energized equipment. The position requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including a safety vest, with the Energy Marshal wearing a vest that clearly identifies their role for easy visual identification. Work is performed in coordination with electricians, commissioning teams, and construction personnel in an active construction setting. The project is structured as a two-year engagement, with openness to traveling or relocation candidates. Team members receive two weeks of paid time off and ten paid holidays. Traveling candidates may take a planned and approved trip home once a month, and a daily per diem is available for up to seven days per week when they remain on-site, subject to project travel policies.
Pay
$60.00 – $65.00/hr. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Palmetto, GA. Workplace Type: fully onsite in Palmetto, GA.
