Responsibilities
- Proficiently operate three or more types of heavy equipment such as a backhoe, trackhoe, scrapers, dozer, excavator, loader, rock trucks, compactors, articulated trucks, crushers, and/or motor graders with or without GPS to prepare job sites to required grades.
- Fasten attachments to tractors with clevis or wedge pin hitches.
- Connect hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shafts to tractors to provide power for attachments.
- Move levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks.
- Operate hydraulic shovels to dig trenches and holes of specified dimensions, remove loosened material, and place it in piles or transport trucks.
- Maneuver equipment to clear right-of-way by raising, lowering, and tilting attachments.
- Drive bulldozers in successive passes to raise or lower terrain to specified grades following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
- Construct and grade new roadways, base courses, building pads, footing excavation, and water ponds to proper slope and grade specifications.
- Load, move, level, and grade dirt, rocks, demolished concrete, and other materials safely and efficiently in a high-paced environment to meet production goals.
- Maintain workflow with minimal supervision.
- Perform demolition of bridges and other structures using excavators and hydraulic hoe rams.
- Operate equipment within a Pipe Crew environment, such as an excavator or loader.
- Conduct general housekeeping, light equipment maintenance, and proper care of equipment without causing damage.
- Perform maintenance checks and report equipment usage/utilization hours daily.
- Operate equipment with GPS-installed devices on dozers and motor graders.
- Learn, follow, and promote all safety standards of Ralph L. Wadsworth and its projects.
- Work weekends, holidays, and/or overtime as project needs require.
- Perform laborer work as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of heavy equipment operating experience with multiple types of equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to perform laborer work.
- Ability to work safely under pressure with time constraints in a changing environment.
- Frequent gross body movements including bending, climbing into equipment, lifting (up to 75 lbs), twisting, standing, balancing, stooping, handling materials, and moving around hazardous sites.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Flexible availability, including overtime, weekends, and nights.
- Valid driver’s license.
