About the role

This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License with no restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy motorized equipment to complete a variety of construction and maintenance functions
  • Perform wildfire support (e.g., forest fire line construction, trails, culverts, roads, and bridges)
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on equipment and buildings/ground maintenance
  • Lead workers with equipment operation
  • Help maintain and repair paved and gravel forest roads, hiking trails, bridle trails, APV trails, bridges, and culverts

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic to include fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Ability to read, write, and speak common English vocabulary
  • 6 months of training or 6 months of experience in operation of heavy construction equipment (e.g., 10-ton crawler, large cranes, 10-ton backhoe, 18-ton dozer, over 44,000-pound Gradall, truck-mounted excavator) and related safety practices
  • Valid commercial driver's license (Class A CDL with no restrictions)
  • Must successfully complete Basic Firefighter Introduction to Fire Behavior Course (S-130/S-190) within the first year of employment

Pay

Starting hourly pay of $23.28/hr. with multiple pay increases over your first 4.5 years of service, reaching an end salary of $26.54/hr. There may also be cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) applied. Longevity pay supplements begin after five years of state service. Refer to the OCSEA pay range schedule and longevity rates.

Schedule

Full-time, 8 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday (variable hours).

Unusual Working Conditions

Works outside in all weather conditions; exposed to dust, mud, dirt, fumes, noise, and dangerous machinery.
