Epidemiologist
Position Overview
The employee shall provide subject matter expertise to USAFSAM Department of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM/FE), Aerospace Medicine Studies and Analysis Division (FES). FES provides the data center and subject matter expert consultative support hub for the USAF Operational Support Team and True North + initiatives, aerospace and operational clinical psychology consultation to optimize performance and assist in injury/decrement recovery, and the capability for USAFSAM and the USAF Medical Service to conduct and administer Aerospace and Operational Medicine Enterprise (AOME) data analytics. The Aeromedical Analytic Consultation Data Cell will provide operational medicine and human performance surveillance support on a variety of operational, readiness, human performance, and health outcomes as well as program evaluation and effectiveness analysis for programs within the operational or human performance domains.
Essential Job Functions
- Data Analysis & Evaluation
- Analyze military health, personnel, and operational records at all levels
- Evaluate programs focused on human and administrative performance
- Apply advanced analytics to complex and multifaceted issues
- Data Management
- Manage retrieval, integration, and formatting of diverse data sources
- Collect data per agreement and map elements to existing sets
- Establish data architecture and develop a comprehensive data dictionary
- Statistical Modeling & Tools
- Conduct statistical analysis using SAS and SAS EGBuild theoretical models linking variables and key outcomes
- Perform validation and verification protocols
- Reporting, Communication, and Publication
- Draft technical reports, presentations, and documents
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
- Support conference materials (posters, presentations)
- Collaboration & Support
- Work with stakeholders and USAFSAM/FES leadership
- Participate in interdisciplinary planning as a health statistics expert
- Aid in knowledge transfer to USAF leadership
- Systems & Documentation
- Learn and apply knowledge of Air Force data systems and repositories
- Document code per USAFSAM programming standards
- Acquire and manage required data access
Qualifications
- Minimum Position Requirements
- MPH, MS, or PhD in Epidemiology, Statistics, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field approved by USAFSAM/FES
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience applying statistical methods in public health is required
- Demonstrate advanced analytical capabilities, including expertise in visual analytics for population health and health data surveillance
- Ability to design, conduct, and lead analyses of operational studies involving health surveillance data, health records, and relevant military records to inform risk reduction strategies and improve health outcomes for the USAF total force population
- Highly Desired Qualifications
- Board Certification in Public Health
- Experience with USAF-related data and health
