About the role
We are seeking an experienced Epic Program Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of a large-scale Epic implementation. This individual will provide strategic oversight across multiple workstreams, ensuring alignment between executive leadership, clinical and operational stakeholders, IT teams, and third-party vendors. The ideal candidate is a seasoned healthcare IT leader with a proven track record of successfully managing complex enterprise Epic implementations from planning through go-live and stabilization.
Responsibilities
- Lead the overall Epic implementation program, managing scope, schedule, budget, risks, and deliverables across all project workstreams.
- Develop and maintain an integrated master project plan, ensuring milestones and dependencies are tracked and communicated.
- Partner with executive sponsors, operational leaders, clinical stakeholders, and Epic representatives to drive project success.
- Establish governance structures, facilitate steering committee meetings, and provide executive-level status reporting.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate program risks and issues while proactively driving resolution.
- Coordinate activities across application teams, infrastructure, revenue cycle, clinical operations, training, testing, data conversion, integration, and change management.
- Ensure project adherence to Epic implementation methodologies and organizational project management standards.
- Monitor project budgets, resource allocation, and vendor performance.
- Lead cross-functional decision-making and ensure stakeholder alignment throughout the implementation lifecycle.
- Oversee readiness activities including integrated testing, end-user training, cutover planning, go-live preparation, and stabilization.
- Foster collaboration across internal teams and external implementation partners.
- Drive continuous communication and transparency throughout the project.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of healthcare IT project/program management experience.
- 5+ years leading enterprise Epic implementation programs.
- Demonstrated experience managing full lifecycle Epic implementations in acute care, ambulatory, or integrated healthcare environments.
- Strong understanding of Epic implementation methodology and governance.
- Experience managing large, cross-functional teams and multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Excellent executive communication, leadership, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to manage project budgets, timelines, risks, and vendor relationships.
- Experience with project management methodologies (PMI, Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid).
Preferred Qualifications
- Epic implementation experience involving multiple applications or enterprise-wide deployments.
- Experience working with healthcare consulting firms or large health systems.
- Experience leading remote project teams.
