About the role
Support and enhance Epic’s Hospital Billing environment, including application configuration, ongoing maintenance, issue resolution, and system improvements. Work closely with revenue cycle stakeholders, technical teams, and Epic resources to ensure billing applications support efficient, accurate, and compliant financial operations.
Responsibilities
- Support automation-related builds, enhancements, and upgrade activities within the Epic environment.
- Provide functional expertise in Hospital Billing Administration, including Charging, Contracts, Claims, and Remittance processes.
- Develop, configure, maintain, and optimize Epic HB functionality based on operational and billing requirements.
- Gather business needs and convert them into functional specifications and appropriate Epic solutions.
- Coordinate and participate in testing, validation, implementation, and post-go-live activities.
- Investigate application problems, identify root causes, and implement timely resolutions to minimize operational impact.
- Partner with revenue cycle and billing teams to evaluate existing processes and recommend workflow improvements.
- Create and maintain documentation covering system configuration, procedures, workflows, and user training.
- Ensure application functionality and billing processes remain consistent with applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Participate in scheduled on-call coverage and provide support outside normal business hours when required.
- Follow established change-control procedures and organizational IT governance standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a comparable discipline.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience supporting Epic Hospital Billing within a healthcare organization.
- Current Epic HB certification is required.
- Additional certifications such as PB, Resolute, Resolute Hospital Billing Expected Reimbursement Contracts Administration, Resolute Hospital Billing Claims, and Electronic Remittance Administration are highly desirable.
- Solid knowledge of hospital billing processes and the broader revenue cycle.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and project coordination capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience supporting Epic upgrades, system testing, validation, and related documentation.
Skills
- Familiarity with Epic applications and tools including Chronicles, Clarity, Charge Router, Contracts, Workqueues (WQ), DNB, and Reporting Workbench is preferred.
- Experience supporting environments with multiple hospitals or an integrated delivery network is a plus.
- Understanding of CMS guidelines, payer-specific requirements, and healthcare billing compliance is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships across technical and business teams.
- Demonstrated ability to assess complex issues, determine appropriate solutions, and resolve problems effectively.
- Ability to provide guidance, mentor team members, and assist with training and knowledge development.
- Proficiency with standard business applications, including Microsoft Office.
