Epic Analyst II
About the role
Plays a key role in the development, support, and rollout of the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Responsible for helping optimize workflow processes by configuring and customizing Epic applications that meet the specific needs of the organization. Collaborates with clinical and operational teams to support the implementation and ongoing use of Epic across the health system, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Develops, configures, and modifies moderately complex information systems to support clinical and operational needs.
- Creates and maintains documentation of business requirements, workflows (current and future state), and system configurations.
- Designs, codes/configures, tests, and maintains application programs.
- Coordinates all testing phases of Epic applications during implementations, upgrades, and optimizations.
- Serves as a key onsite Epic resource during system implementations and ongoing support activities.
- Lead and facilitate team activities related to IT and clinical/business systems.
- Provides second-level support for incidents and requests related to the Epic application.
- Serves as project lead for Epic software releases and new application implementations.
- Participates in on-call support as needed for system troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Leads and monitors application testing and validation during system upgrades or new module implementations.
- Provides input into policies, procedures, training materials, and best practices related to Epic usage and system optimization.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with end users and facility leadership (physicians, nurses, revenue cycle, health information management, etc.).
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience is required.
- Epic Certification: Certification in one or more Epic modules (e.g., EpicCare Ambulatory, Willow, Orders) is highly desirable.
- Experience in systems integration, data management, healthcare IT, and workflow automation.
- Knowledge of system architecture, database design, and project management in a healthcare setting is essential.
- IIS experience should include working with electronic health record (EHR) systems, system optimization, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring seamless interoperability across platforms.
- Hands-on clinical experience (e.g., nursing, pharmacy, or allied health professions) with a deep understanding of clinical workflows and patient care processes.
- Experience in utilizing EHR systems within a clinical setting and an understanding of documentation, compliance, and patient safety protocols.
- Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to translate user needs into system functionality, and a collaborative mindset to work across interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience with process mapping, workflow redesign, and data analysis are also valuable.
- Comprehensive Understanding of Healthcare Business Processes and Technology: Deep understanding of healthcare operations, with the ability to connect healthcare business needs with technology.
- Knowledge of Healthcare IT Solutions and Interfacing: For IIS candidates, proficiency with IT solutions, data integration, and interfacing between systems. For clinical candidates, familiarity with EHR systems and technology used in care delivery, with an emphasis on improving the user experience and patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in healthcare operations, including a solid understanding of the day-to-day functions of clinical, administrative, or IT departments.
- Experience working in environments where technology and operations intersect, whether through managing clinical workflows, optimizing system usage, or supporting operational efficiencies.
- Able to use operational insights to inform system design and workflow optimization.
