EP Device Specialist - Arrhythmia

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect care for patients with cardiac pacemakers and automatic internal cardiac defibrillator systems, following departmental processes.
• Serve as an advocate and liaison between patients, staff, physicians, and external customers to ensure continuity of care.
• Collaborate with Electrophysiologists, Cardiologists, Surgeons, Cardiac Nurses, Device Nurses, and other device staff across clinics as part of a first-response team.
• Evaluate, manage, and support the delivery of quality clinical care for patients with cardiac devices.
• Demonstrate specialized knowledge of devices, their effects, and critical thinking in their use.
• Perform daily independent reviews of remote transmissions from implanted devices and correlate findings with patients' clinical conditions to assist in arrhythmia management.
• Conduct interrogations and reprogramming of devices for scheduled and urgent walk-in patients, adhering to device type, insurance restrictions, and patient needs.
• Interpret arrhythmias, troubleshoot, and reprogram pacemaker defibrillator settings according to patient needs and department protocols.
• Encourage patient and family questions, provide guidance to foster compliance, and deliver education on heart pacing tailored to the patient’s understanding.
• Document patient contacts related to company recalls, monitor more frequently, and implement necessary device changes.
• Perform trans-telephonic checks for pacemaker patients between office visits to assess basic function and battery life, providing reports to physicians.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of messages, triage and prioritize communications, and relay information to providers and patients promptly.
• Demonstrate triage skills to determine normal and abnormal conditions, reviewing device information, health history, medications, and heart failure status.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, transferring calls appropriately with clear explanations.
• Complete and submit all charges for device interrogations and remote check services provided in the clinic.
• Report to assigned Supervisor or Manager.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 3 years of experience in the cardiac device/arrhythmia field preferred.
• Previous experience with programmable electronic cardiac systems and software.
• Previous clinical cardiovascular experience preferred.
• Training in Dysrhythmia recognition within 90 days of employment.
• CPR or BLS certification and introduction to code training/simulation within 90 days of employment.
• Previous computer experience preferred.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
