Environmentalist II

About the role

Under direct supervision, the Environmentalist II maintains prescribed levels of cleanliness for assigned areas using approved chemicals, germicides, and equipment. He or she also follows prescribed schedules and procedures of the Environmental Services Department to ensure that all areas are clean, sanitary, attractive, and comfortable for patients, visitors, and employees. This role includes performing courier duties as assigned in a timely and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Extract carpeted surfaces, clean upholstery, or bonnet carpets throughout CGHS’s facilities.
• Report hazards to a Supervisor and place Wet Floor Signs in a manner easily recognizable to patients, visitors, or employees.
• Assist with setups, especially in the Trice Conference Center or West Tower, and help with minor moves at any CGHS facility.
• Transport large items to the Macon City Landfill when they cannot be disposed of via compactors.
• Prepare new projects for opening, including preparing all floor surfaces for traffic on schedule.
• Strip and refinish patient rooms and elevator floors quickly to minimize disruption.
• Practice the highest level of Operational Excellence in interactions with patients, visitors, or employees.
• Report maintenance items needing attention to a Supervisor.
• Police the grounds for debris, trash, and cigarette butts around assigned areas and hospital grounds.
• Use equipment safely, including proper placement of electrical cords and use of protective equipment.
• Return all equipment to the Equipment Room in clean and working order.
• Make on-the-spot decisions regarding safe disposal of materials, including biohazardous waste.
• Package and transport biohazardous waste according to safety standards.
• Remove refuse from patient units using large rolling bins with closed tops.
• Move cardboard throughout the facility for recycling.
• Perform multiple rounds of the MCCG facility each shift to maintain cleanliness.

Requirements

• Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
• Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
• Must assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics.
• Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds.
• Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel, and change positions rapidly.
• Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds.
• Must tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres, and noxious odors.
• Must work in noisy environments and remain self-directed to complete tasks.
• Must remain calm under stressful situations and assess/respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
• Must assist co-workers in overlapping tasks and prioritize job tasks efficiently.
• If identified as falling under POPE C, must pass the cardiac recovery test.

Pay

Pay Range: $19.80 - $29.70 per hour.

Schedule

• Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
• Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM–4:15 PM, with some weekends.
