Schedule: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, weekdays
Pay range: $18.85 – $28.30 per hour
Responsibilities
- Ensure the ‘first impression’ look of the assigned patient unit or area, including high dusting, spot mopping corridors, cleaning baseboards and hand rails, polishing stainless steel, and reporting maintenance needs to a supervisor.
- Perform daily patient room cleaning, including changing disposal can liners, dusting and wet mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, disinfecting surfaces, and wiping down furniture.
- Clean and disinfect dismissed patient rooms promptly, including dusting, disinfecting surfaces, making beds, scrubbing ceramic surfaces, replenishing supplies (Patient Guide, Environmental Services card, Gideon Bible), mopping floors, and emptying refuse containers.
- Respond to dirty beds in clinical areas in a timely manner and use Bed Tracking software to facilitate patient placement.
- Replenish supplies throughout the unit or public area as needed, using discretion and ensuring judicious use of resources.
- Complete ‘morning work’ at the start of each shift in clinical areas, including cleaning common areas such as public restrooms, elevator lobbies, nurses’ stations, and break rooms, and routinely vacuuming carpets.
- Follow prescribed safety methods when cleaning isolation rooms, as determined by the Infection Control Department.
- Maintain ancillary areas (e.g., trash rooms, Dirty Utility closets, med rooms, supply closets) by dust mopping, wet mopping, emptying trash containers, and dusting surfaces. Clean offices by dusting and wiping furniture when free of personal effects.
- Attend daily shift meetings, bi-monthly supervisory meetings, and monthly department meetings to communicate important information and strategic direction.
- Report unsafe conditions or items needing repair to a supervisor or the Facilities Management Department.
- Practice outstanding customer service when interacting with patients, visitors, or staff, and adhere to standards that influence patient satisfaction ratings.
- Be prepared to relocate to other parts of the hospital based on the needs of the health system, as determined by a supervisor or director.
Requirements
- No licensure, registration, or certification required.
- No formal education required.
- No prior experience required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must have visual near and distance acuity.
- Must be able to communicate verbally in person and over the phone or radio.
- Must assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using proper body mechanics.
- Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities, with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds.
- Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel, and change positions rapidly.
- Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds.
- Must tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres, and noxious odors.
- Must work in noisy environments and remain self-directed to complete tasks as assigned.
- Must remain calm under stressful situations and assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
- Must assist co-workers in overlapping tasks and prioritize job tasks efficiently.
- If identified as falling under POPE C, must pass the cardiac recovery test.
