Environmental Technician Assc/ Technician

Job Summary

The Environmental Technician Associate is responsible for performing environmental inspections, data management, and reporting to comply with environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform environmental inspections within the assigned region using AEP approved forms and methods within regulatory time frames.
• Communicate deviations appropriately.
• Collect data as needed to support environmental compliance reporting using AEP approved methods.
• Prepare and submit reports as assigned.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.
• Provide support during environmental compliance reviews.
• Effectively communicate environmental compliance issues to appropriate internal parties.
• Maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
• Drive safely to perform environmental inspections.

Essential Job Functions & Tasks

• Perform environmental inspections under close supervision within the assigned region using AEP approved forms and methods within regulatory time frames.
• Communicate deviations appropriately.
• Collect data as needed to support environmental compliance reporting using AEP approved methods.
• Prepare and submit reports as assigned.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.
• Provide support during environmental compliance reviews.
• Effectively communicate environmental compliance issues to appropriate internal parties.
• Maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
• Since a considerable amount of time will be spent driving from one AEP asset to the other, safe driving techniques and practices are essential.

Basic Qualifications

• Environmental Tech Assc(Grade 4): No experience is required, but preferred. Highly Preferred: Preference will be given to those with experience in Coal Combustion Residual Surface Impoundments and Landfills and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures. Valid driver’s license.
• Environmental Tech (Grade 5): Minimum of three years of environmental experience with an associate’s degree. No experience required, but preferred, with a bachelor’s degree. Valid driver’s license.

Additional Requirements (Preferred Qualifications)

• Environmental Tech Assc(Grade 4): Must have at least an awareness level knowledge of the inspection requirements for programs listed in the job summary above. Travel time is considered 90% within the assigned region and may include overnight stays on occasion.
• Environmental Tech (Grade 5): Must have working knowledge of, and adequate demonstrated competence in, the inspection requirements for programs listed in the job summary above. Preference will be given to those with experience in Coal Combustion Residual Surface Impoundments and Landfills and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures. Travel time is considered 90% within the assigned region and may include overnight stays on occasion.

Compensation

• Environmental Technician Assc(Grade 4): $55,747 - $64,323
• Environmental Technician (Grade 5): $65,474 - $75,546

Physical Demand Level

• L – Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 12 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5-6 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.
