About the role
Chemours is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our growing Thermal and Specialized Solutions team. This position will be available at the La Porte Plant in La Porte, TX and report directly to the Plant Manager. The primary focus area of this Environmental Specialist role will be to provide overall strategic leadership and management for La Porte’s environmental program(s) aimed at ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, corporate policies, standards and guidelines, and site-specific requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance, expertise, and leadership as the site environmental resource.
- Led the site compliance efforts for adherence to Clean Water Act, NPDES, Spill Prevention Controls and Countermeasures (SPCC), Storm Water Pollution Prevention, groundwater protection, and RC14001 program management.
- Led the site compliance efforts for adherence to Clean Air Act, New Source Review, New Source Performance Standards, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, MACT Standards, Title V permitting or other air operating permits, calculation of emissions inventories, air emission reduction initiatives, and other associated air program requirements.
- Manage and prepare required on time reporting to federal, state, and local agencies, including but not limited to SARA 312/313, Title V, Air Emissions Inventory, Greenhouse Gas, Hazardous Waste, and the Corporate Environmental Plan.
- Participate in regulatory audits and other interactions with federal and state environmental agencies and respond to requests or notifications from environmental agencies.
- Participate in the preparation in all environmental permit applications and renewals.
- Drive compliance activities with respect to regulatory and corporate requirements, routine and non-routine activities such as environmental impact assessments of operations projects or process changes.
- Evaluate environmental implications on site process changes and participate on site project teams as appropriate.
- Lead and/or participate in investigation of environmental incidents, implement system improvements to reduce potential for future events.
- Lead and coordinate 1st and 2nd party environmental audits and participate in plant staff audits.
- Establish or update operating procedures and communicate them so that employees follow environmental requirements.
- Aid in the development and review of environmental training curriculum.
- Participate on both plant and corporate OHS committees / teams.
- Ability to travel less than 25%.
Requirements
- BS in a technical discipline preferably in chemical or environmental engineering, environmental science, or related discipline.
- 3+ years work experience in high hazard chemical or petrochemical manufacturing in an environmental support capacity.
- Possess working knowledge of environmental standards and rules (i.e., RC14001, RCRA, NPDES, Clean Water & Air Acts).
- Experience in various environmental related reporting (SARA 312, 313, Air Emission Inventory, CERCLA, NPDES DMR, MACT compliance submissions).
- Experience in preparation of waste characterization for off-site waste disposal.
- Highly motivated with strong problem-solving skills and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment with operations, technical, and maintenance personnel.
- Able to manage multiple tasks within established schedules and timelines.
- Demonstrate computer competencies with common software applications (i.e., MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Preferred
- Applicable safety certifications (i.e., CEP, NREP).
- Interpret rules and policies and communicate both oral and written requirements purposefully and accurately.
- Conceptualize ideas and thoughts into actions utilizing appropriate planning and organizational skills.
- Provide environmental guidance in emergency situations and release response, including agency reporting as required.
- Network and positively interact with other safety professionals.
