About the role
The Environmental Services Worker III is responsible for performing advanced cleaning, sanitation, and facility maintenance tasks to ensure a safe, hygienic, and compliant hospital environment. This role requires expertise in floor care, waste management, infection control, and specialized cleaning procedures.
Responsibilities
- Performs advanced floor care, including stripping, waxing, buffing, deep-cleaning carpets, and operating floor maintenance equipment.
- Handles the removal, segregation, and proper disposal of hazardous, infectious, and noninfectious waste, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and hospital policies.
- Executes terminal cleaning and disinfection procedures in high-risk areas such as operating rooms, isolation units, and intensive care areas.
- Trains and mentors new Environmental Services team members, ensuring adherence to proper cleaning techniques, infection control protocols, and safety procedures.
- Assists with special projects, such as construction cleanup, deep cleaning initiatives, and emergency response cleaning efforts.
- Moves, assembles, and adjusts furniture, medical equipment, and floor mats to support department operations and facility needs.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, custodial work, or healthcare facility maintenance required.
- Experience in terminal cleaning, waste management, and advanced floor care techniques in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of floor care techniques, chemical safety, and infection control protocols.
- Ability to operate and maintain floor cleaning machines, buffers, and other specialized cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and hospital waste disposal regulations.
- Strong attention to detail in performing specialized cleaning and sanitation tasks.
- Ability to train and mentor new employees, ensuring consistent adherence to hospital cleaning standards.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff and visitors.
- Problem-solving skills to identify and address environmental concerns within the facility.
- Certification in Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) or Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) preferred.
