About the role
Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines
- Maintain clean and sterile environments in patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas
- Wear proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines
- Keep storage, equipment and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy
- Use pagers and other technology appropriately when needed
- Assist in laundry areas as appropriate
- Perform physical activities including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials
- Lift and/or move up to 40–50 lbs and push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps
- Stand for the majority of the shift
- May be exposed to certain levels of noise with equipment in operation
- Work hours may vary depending on patient/resident needs, including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred
- Ability to use a computer
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals helpful
- Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills required
- Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment preferred
