Environmental Services Technician, Long Term Care (LTC)

About the role

Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines
• Maintain clean and sterile environments in patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas
• Wear proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines
• Keep storage, equipment and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy
• Use pagers and other technology appropriately when needed
• Assist in laundry areas as appropriate
• Perform physical activities including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials
• Lift and/or move up to 40–50 lbs and push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps
• Stand for the majority of the shift
• May be exposed to certain levels of noise with equipment in operation
• Work hours may vary depending on patient/resident needs, including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred
• Ability to use a computer
• Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals helpful
• Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills required
• Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment preferred
