Responsibilities

  • Scrub, strip, polish, and refinish floors using appropriate equipment and/or supplies.
  • Operate various types of cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical (e.g., ringers, vacuum, electric floor machines, sweepers).
  • Clean or sanitize after emergency spills as requested.
  • Analyze floor or carpet conditions and determine proper cleaning techniques following department processes.
  • Maintain hard surface floors and carpets following department processes.
  • Exhibit timely and satisfactory completion of all job assignments.
  • Exercise initiative by seeking additional tasks from group leader or other associates when time permits.
  • Use and maintain equipment, keeping it clean and in good repair.
  • Keep work area in orderly, clean, and safe condition; dispose of waste in a timely manner to ensure hospital cleanliness.
  • Collect hazardous and medical waste according to hospital processes, DOT, and RSPA training (hazardous and pharmaceutical).
  • Replace and transport sharps containers to waste staging area.
  • Collect soiled linen.
  • Remove and dispose of rubbish from selected areas following safety guidelines.
  • Separate regular and recycle trash according to procedure.
  • Operate waste compactors safely and efficiently.
  • Clean and/or sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction by exceeding expectations and displaying patience and tact when dealing with hospital personnel.
  • Present the department positively to all contacts.
  • Maintain a courteous and pleasant attitude toward patients, families, and other contacts.
  • Maintain confidential patient and departmental information.
  • Utilize AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) with both internal and external customers to meet system goals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively.
  • Show a positive, supportive attitude in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops, and community affairs as specified.
  • Relocate furniture and equipment as requested.
  • Complete terminal cleans as needed.
  • Cross-train on discharge room cleans and OR cleaning to accommodate hospital needs during peak periods or staffing shortages.
  • Complete Housekeeping Aide duties as needed.
  • Complete discharge room cleans following hospital processes.
  • Complete OR cleaning following hospital processes.
  • Attend all mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and in-services.
  • Complete annual CBTs (Computer-Based Training) as required.
  • Follow written department goals and objectives, reviewing them annually with the Manager.
  • Seek education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs and review progress during annual evaluation.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality as outlined in the Hospital Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Plan for special days off in advance and submit written requests for time off per departmental guidelines.
  • Request PTO time in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Provide adequate notice for absences and call two hours prior to the beginning of the shift per departmental policy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience with prior housekeeping experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

Skills

  • Able to operate small electrical equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and comprehending chemical labels and other safety materials.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Job responsibilities involve walking, standing, bending, climbing, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; for lifts over 35 pounds, use lifting equipment or assistance from another associate.
  • Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
