About the Role

At Bridgeport Hospital, every employee is part of the patient care team, contributing to a team approach that promotes access, continuous, comprehensive care, and quality improvement. Under the direction of the EVS Supervisor, this role performs daily cleaning of patient rooms, nursing stations, lounges, restrooms, offices, clinic areas, corridors, stairwells, elevators, and any other assigned area, following the standard cleaning and infection control procedures of Sodexho Marriott Services and Bridgeport Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and prescribed methods:
    • High and low dusting of horizontal and vertical surfaces.
    • Empty trash receptacles, remove trash, and reline containers.
    • Damp wipe/disinfect furniture and surfaces.
    • Clean and polish bathroom fixtures.
    • Dry mop or vacuum floors.
    • Wet mop/disinfect floors.
    • Burnish/refinish floors.
    • Clean wall surfaces and windows.
    • Polish metallic surfaces.
    • Replenish room supplies.
    • Perform check-out or room discharge cleaning.
    • Shampoo carpets.
    • Collect bulk trash from soiled holding areas.
    • Inspect own work for quality.
  • Maintain cleanliness and perform EVS-related tasks with urgency and customer service orientation:
    • Complete cleaning assignments within acceptable time parameters.
    • Measure and dilute cleaning chemicals appropriately.
    • Maintain assigned equipment and workstations; report repair needs.
    • Assist in cleaning emergency spills when observed or upon request.
    • Observe and report the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures.
  • Ensure safety for patients, staff, and visitors:
    • Adhere to department safety policies and procedures.
    • Use protective devices and clothing (e.g., jackets, safety gloves, floor signs, shoes, goggles).
    • Demonstrate proper use of tools and equipment (e.g., razors, scrapers, vacuum, auto scrubber, buffer, extractor, cleaning chemicals).
    • Immediately report all accidents, incidents, and work-related injuries to supervisor.
    • Keep floors free from spills, trash, or articles.
    • Demonstrate safe lifting practices and fire evacuation plans.
    • Adhere to lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Perform additional tasks as required by supervisor, including attending scheduled meetings and in-services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to understand and speak English at a level that allows for safe and efficient performance of duties.
  • Must pass all pre-employment screenings as required.
  • Demonstrate ability to use supplies, tools, and equipment properly without waste or neglect after initial training.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Successful completion of department orientation.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Stand and walk frequently.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Possess close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents and applicants who become disabled must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
