Environmental Services Associate - Part time (24 HR)/Days
About the Role
At Bridgeport Hospital, every employee is part of the patient care team, contributing to a team approach that promotes access, continuous, comprehensive care, and quality improvement. Under the direction of the EVS Supervisor, this role performs daily cleaning of patient rooms, nursing stations, lounges, restrooms, offices, clinic areas, corridors, stairwells, elevators, and any other assigned area, adhering to the standard cleaning and infection control procedures of Sodexho Marriott Services and Bridgeport Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and prescribed methods, including:
- High and low dusting of horizontal and vertical surfaces
- Emptying trash receptacles, removing trash, and relining containers
- Damp wiping/disinfecting furniture and surfaces
- Cleaning and polishing bathroom fixtures
- Dry mopping or vacuuming floors
- Wet mopping/disinfecting floors
- Burnishing/refinishing floors
- Cleaning wall surfaces and windows
- Polishing metallic surfaces
- Replenishing room supplies
- Performing check-out or room discharge cleaning
- Shampooing carpets
- Collecting bulk trash from soiled holding areas
- Inspecting one's own work for quality
- Maintain cleanliness and perform EVS-related tasks with urgency and customer service orientation, including:
- Completing cleaning assignments within acceptable time parameters
- Measuring and diluting cleaning chemicals appropriately
- Maintaining assigned equipment and work stations, reporting repair needs
- Assisting in cleaning emergency spills when observed or upon request
- Observing and reporting the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures
- Ensure safety for patients, staff, and visitors by:
- Adhering to department safety policies and procedures
- Using protective devices and clothing (e.g., jackets, safety gloves, floor signs, shoes, goggles)
- Demonstrating safe use of equipment (e.g., razors, scrapers, vacuum, auto scrubber, buffer, extractor, cleaning chemicals)
- Immediately reporting accidents, incidents, and work-related injuries to supervisor
- Keeping floors free from spills, trash, or articles
- Demonstrating safe lifting practices
- Demonstrating knowledge of fire (emergency) evacuation plans
- Adhering to lock-out/tag-out procedures
- Perform additional tasks as required by supervisor, including attending scheduled meetings and in-services.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to understand and speak English at a level that allows for safe and efficient performance of duties
- Must pass all pre-employment screenings as required
- After initial training, must demonstrate ability to use supplies, tools, and equipment properly without waste or neglect
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Successful completion of department orientation
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Possess specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
