About the role

Certerra Southwest is seeking an Entry Level Environmental Scientist to join our dynamic team in Phoenix/Tempe, AZ. The ideal candidate will support senior team members in conducting various field and office tasks across the southwestern United States, particularly in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada.

Responsibilities

  • Support field projects including groundwater monitoring, soil sampling, vapor sampling, and operations/maintenance of remediation systems.
  • Support planning and design of environmental systems and processes to mitigate/control the discharge of pollutants.
  • Maintain and monitor environmental field measurements.
  • Conduct field investigations and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, permits, and specifications.
  • Collect soil samples from borings using various drilling rigs for environmental and geotechnical testing.
  • Install groundwater monitoring wells, vadose zone wells, and vapor sampling ports according to project specifications.
  • Log and track data, prepare spreadsheets, and perform calculations for use in exposure assessments and fate and transport modeling.
  • Research and interpret existing and historical data related to waste management, disposal, and releases to the environment.
  • Develop conceptual site models based on collected data.
  • Prepare detailed reports and supporting documentation summarizing research, field activities, and analytical results.

Requirements

  • A willingness and ability to learn new skills in challenging fields and office settings.
  • A hard-working, safe, efficient, and dedicated attitude.
  • Able to travel, work nights, weekends, and extended hours as required.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training.
  • Experience with MS Office, CADD, Salesforce, and/or Deltek Advantage.
  • State or Federal level certifications for asbestos, lead, indoor air quality, industrial hygiene, or environmental management.
  • A BS in Engineering or Physical Science.

Qualifications

  • Physical ability to lift/carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to carry and climb ladders.
  • Control handheld power tools.
  • Wear a respirator, safety harness, and other safety equipment as needed.
  • Stand for extended periods of time.

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance.
