About the Role
AECOM is seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist/Geologist to support the Environmental business line from the Omaha, Nebraska office, primarily working on Department of Defense (DoD) projects.
Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, analyze, and report on environmental measures in natural systems.
- Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
- Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations.
- Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines.
- Prepare technical documents and proposals, as well as advanced data and scientific documents.
- Provide technical expertise support and engage in study/training on contaminants and remediation of the environment.
- Perform unsupervised tasks and direct staff in the execution of tasks.
- Coordinate with task and project managers, working with on-site subcontractors and field staff to support sampling, data collection, and field documentation.
- Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, and sediment; prepare samples for shipping; and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork.
- Work on either a project management or technical support track, closely with senior-level project managers and/or senior technical staff to learn AECOM’s project management procedures and/or technical project expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or other related discipline + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License.
- Must pass a motor vehicle records check, background check, and enroll in a medical surveillance program.
- Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
Qualifications
- Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.
- Ability to write and convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or other related discipline.
- Ability to travel for fieldwork and/or meetings, including occasional travel within the United States.
- Experience with developing conceptual site models and preparing remediation strategies.
- Proficiency in standard MS Office suite software applications; experience with MS Project is a plus.
- OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
- Database, GIS, CAD, Adobe Illustrator, and visualization software skills are desirable.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck.
- Tolerance for work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions and be medically fit for wearing a respirator.
Pay
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $72,000 to $82,000 yearly.
