Environmental Scientist I / Geoscientist I Technician

About the role

This is an entry to mid-level position with primary responsibilities to complete project-required tasks in the field and office. The title may include Geologic, Environmental, GIS, Ecologic, or Biologic Scientist depending on education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Collect field samples of water, soil, or other media in accordance with standard industry practice or Moody standard operating procedures.
• Document field conditions of media such as soil, groundwater, surface water, bedrock, air quality (gases), stream substrate, and biological media.
• Assemble, operate, and maintain field instruments and equipment.
• Prepare notes, sketches, and site maps.
• Complete entry and quality assurance/quality control tasks with large quantities of data produced from field activities.
• Analyze data.
• Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
• Work self-motivated with little supervision.
• Apply problem-solving skills.
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal mediums as appropriate for the audience.
• Use critical thinking skills, including logic and reasoning, to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Work individually or with team members.
• Manage flexible work schedules and time efficiently.
• Follow company and client-mandated safety rules/practices and maintain safety consciousness at all times.
• Use MS Office proficiently, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
• Maintain dependable attendance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, or other related field and/or at least one year of experience.
• Ability to perform each essential duty at a minimum satisfactory level.
• For Geologic Scientist roles: sufficient credits in geology coursework to satisfy Pennsylvania Professional Geologist licensing requirements; encouraged to pursue Professional Geologist license while employed with Moody.
• Other professional positions are encouraged to pursue applicable licensing, certifications, and accreditations while employed with Moody.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

• Perform physically demanding tasks working outdoors in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures, inclement weather).
• Sit for long periods during office-related tasks or while driving to work sites.
• Field tasks may require hiking long distances while carrying equipment and supplies, with frequent walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting.
• Carry out the physical effort necessary to perform job-related tasks.

Schedule

• Average 40 hours per week, with overtime as required.
• Weekly schedules may vary based on business demands and are typically confirmed during the workweek (Monday–Friday) during normal business hours.
• Occasional weekend shifts on Saturday and Sunday may be required.
