About the role

This position provides technical expertise, support, and coordination for environmental safety and emergency preparedness programs across Mercy Hospital Southeast.

Responsibilities

  • Implement program goals and objectives to ensure a safe working environment and improve disaster planning for all staff, physicians, and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, NFPA, CMS, and state agencies' regulations across all Mercy entities.
  • Support the development of innovative strategies that enhance the Environment of Care and Emergency Management programs in a multi-facility setting.
  • Lead projects and manage multiple initiatives, adapting to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Develop and present presentations to various organizational levels.
  • Make informed decisions based on data analysis and regulatory research.
  • Teach or conduct learning sessions as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, emergency preparedness, safety, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading and developing innovative strategies in healthcare emergency preparedness and environmental safety.
  • Knowledge of healthcare emergency preparedness and environmental safety regulations, including OSHA, Joint Commission, NFPA, CMS, and state agencies.
  • Project management skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree preferred in public health, health care administration, emergency preparedness, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in healthcare Emergency Management or Environmental Safety.
  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) or Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP).
  • OSHA 511 Standards for General Industry certification.
  • NIMS certification at levels 100, 200, 700, and 800.

  • Excellent written and strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make programmatic changes and decisions based on data and regulatory research.
  • Sound judgment and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, self-directed, and work independently.
