What You'll Do
- Provide strategic advice on Massachusetts environmental regulations, including permitting, compliance, and enforcement
- Guide clients through local and state land use and zoning processes
- Assess and manage environmental risks in real estate and corporate transactions
- Serve as a trusted advisor to developers, energy clients, utilities, manufacturers, and other stakeholders on high-impact environmental matters
Must-Haves
- JD and admission to the Massachusetts Bar (or willingness to become admitted)
- 10 to 20+ years of legal experience, ideally from an AMLaw or comparable firm environment
- Deep knowledge of Massachusetts land use, zoning, and environmental laws (e.g., Chapter 91, MEPA, Wetlands Protection Act)
- Comfort operating independently with limited oversight in a lean team setting
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact directly with clients
Nice-to-Haves
- Background handling RCRA, CERCLA, or enforcement actions
- Experience negotiating real estate transactions or construction contracts
- Familiarity with energy infrastructure permitting or brownfield redevelopment
