About the Role

The Environmental Professional III (EP III) serves as a senior-level technical leader responsible for setting direction and ensuring consistent execution of environmental compliance across our Natural Gas Pipeline (NGP) segment. This role involves end-to-end regulatory engagement, independently leading audits and corrective action closure, and applying expert judgment to compliance issues while protecting business outcomes and regulatory credibility. The EP III drives accountability across cross-functional teams, translates complex challenges into actionable strategies, and maintains a senior-level presence in time-critical situations. The position also builds organizational capability through mentoring, training, and leadership of compliance systems, supporting a broad range of environmental media, including air permitting (Title V), SPCC, waste management, hydrostatic testing discharges, and project-related permitting.

Responsibilities

• Provide mentoring to entry-level employees on compliance system management, assisting with compliance requirements and organizational procedures and tools.
• Develop tools and templates to manage the collection of environmental compliance and remediation information, enhancing compliance and company performance with appropriate quality and accuracy reviews of data.
• Manage field inspections for operating assets and construction projects, providing senior-level knowledge of compliance requirements and operating or construction parameters.
• Enhance existing compliance programs based on audit results and lead internal audits of facilities within and outside areas of responsibility.
• Represent the company in evaluating and implementing minor emerging regulatory issues through state-based industry associations or in support of the company’s Regulatory Issue Guideline.
• Resolve regulatory applicability issues, identify compliance requirements and tasks, and apply risk-based analysis to operations or construction practices.
• Support less experienced professionals in resolving complex questions of applicability or requirements.
• Manage all environmental programs and their application within complex operating assets or construction projects.
• Develop new procedures and tools to facilitate and demonstrate compliance.
• Review environmental inspection reports and resolve potential compliance issues based on knowledge of regulations, construction practices, and operating assets.
• Negotiate with contract and consultant resources to ensure appropriate service levels and competitive rates, evaluating performance and making recommendations on continued use.
• Manage the permit process from start to finish for all media, including applications for new construction and operating assets, ensuring quality and accuracy of practical permit conditions.
• Manage multiple compliance systems across various media for complex operating sites and projects, contributing to system enhancements to improve compliance performance.
• Train new users on compliance systems and procedures and participate in the development and implementation of new compliance systems.
• Manage and participate in agency inspections, representing the company in negotiations on compliance or enforcement issues.
• Coordinate and facilitate environmental project permitting before, during, and after construction for maintenance, growth, and large capital projects.
• Collect and review environmental field samples (air, water, and waste) for analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, natural science, engineering, or a related field (preferred) and/or a combination of formal education and relevant job experience.
• Typically 6–10 years of related experience in environmental compliance.
• Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and standards and their applicability to operations.
• Ability to analyze, research, compile, and prepare permit applications, logs, reports, and correspondence, as well as company responses to agency requests.
• Ability to evaluate, research, and interpret governmental regulations, equipment performance manuals, regulatory agency guidance, reports, correspondence, and company policies and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in applying math, algebraic formulas, and statistics.
• Excellent interpersonal, advisory, and communication skills, including the ability to exchange information, provide instructions, and conduct verbal presentations.
• Technical writing skills for developing communications and training materials.
• Proficiency in utilizing office equipment, including computers and Microsoft Office tools.
• Ability to operate relevant tools and equipment.

Pay

Expected salary range: $101,000 – $151,000 per year.
