About the role
HDR is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Planning Project Principal to expand CEQA & NEPA services in the Southern California area. This position is responsible for collaborating and providing technical expertise across HDR’s business groups (Transportation, Resources, Water, BES, Architecture, and Federal). The individual will work with senior management across HDR’s business groups to develop new opportunities, manage and deliver projects, develop staff, and respond to client needs. This is a seller/doer position requiring self-motivation, technical capability, and team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate work of single or multi-discipline teams throughout the project lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out).
- Responsible for any project assignment regardless of size, visibility, number of disciplines, technical complexity or number of staff.
- Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently.
- Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
- Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders.
- Coordinate staffing and workload through the entire project lifecycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule.
- Track financial aspects of projects and coordinate and adjust work effort with the team to ensure that work is completed within the agreed-to budget and schedule.
- Work with Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews.
- Implement QA/QC procedures.
- Supervise large project staffs and act as a mentor for less-experienced Project Managers.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Technical work products
- Management, preparation, planning, development, and/or analysis/review of technical studies and documentation that meet requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
- Federal and state permit applications.
Project management
- Establish the sequencing of environmental tasks/projects, from financial management of the project through successful completion (managing scope, schedule and budget) using HDR’s technology, standards, and project delivery practices.
- Task management, staff management, and mentoring of junior and mid-level environmental planning staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related professional experience.
- 15 years of related experience.
- A minimum of 7 years of project management experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, and project management software.
- Ability to interact with various design teams, with excellent organizational, project management, and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in HDR’s employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- A license/certification.
- PMP certification.
- Familiarity with Primavera P3 or SureTrak software.
- Familiarity with Prolog software.
Compensation
The expected compensation range for this position is $154,000 – $220,000 and depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
