About the role
The Lab/Facility Chemist II analyzes hazardous and non-hazardous waste to ensure proper treatment and disposal compliance. The incumbent applies approved preparation techniques and utilizes instruments to analyze environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents.
Responsibilities
- Performs preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents using approved government agency test methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).
- Performs Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) prior to data reporting for any method the chemist will be conducting analysis.
- Maintains a satisfactory annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC) for each method.
- Maintains SOPs and WI in combination with regulation changes, methodology changes, process improvements, and/or leadership input.
- Analyzes the chemical composition of materials and conducts research on suitable treatment methods.
- Provides technical expertise to develop formulas, improve processes, and solve technical problems.
- Ensures familiarity with quality control measures and necessary calculations for applicable methods.
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets general scientific documentation, technical procedures, and governmental regulations, and responds effectively to sensitive inquiries.
- Completes basic instrument maintenance and repairs.
- Maintains a clean and orderly lab and work environment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of waste characterization and waste processing protocols.
- Ability to identify trends and data patterns.
- Excellent coordination and management of multiple projects.
- Ability to work within a team environment and simultaneously handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to review and understand laboratory analytical reports and statistically evaluate the data.
Requirements
- 2 - 4 Years of overall relevant work experience.
- 40 Hour Hazwoper, or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Prior experience performing chemical analyses of waste for treatment and disposal.
- Prior experience researching to determine alternate treatment methods.
